Montan / Montagna

The municipality of Montan/Montagna is located on a sunny plateau on the natural terrace above the town of Auer/Ora. A small part of the territory is part of the Monte Corno Nature Park and the Castelfeder Biotope.

Montan is surrounded by vineyards and orchards, and it is famous for its delicious wine called Blauburgunder.

What to do in Montan?

The town centre of Montan is worth a visit: in the middle of colourful houses and narrow streets, a beautiful parish church, which dates back to the 12th century, is located. Above the town, there is Enna Castle, which was built in 1172.

With a lot of sunshine and pleasant temperatures, Montan is a great starting point for many beautiful hikes and mountain bike tours. Here, you can enjoy uncontaminated nature in the middle of fields and meadows.

Don’t miss a trip to the Castelfeder Biotope. The hill above Auer is characterized by rocks, bushes, and high moorlands with a vast flora and fauna. On the top, there are the ruins of a castle, which dates back to the 6th century. Here, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Überetsch and even Salurn/Salorno.

During the cold season, the best South Tyrolean skiing areas are not far away: with a 40 minutes’ drive, you can reach the family friendly skiing area Obereggen. Due to its connection to the skiing area Val di Fiemme, 111 kilometres of slopes are waiting for you here. And a beautiful ice-skating rink can be reached in just a few minutes by car.
