Dorf Tirol / Tirolo

The South Tyrolean municipality Tirol is located above Merano on the Küchelberg/Monte San Zeno. The landscape of this area offers much more than just orchards, vineyards, and forests. During a [walk or hike]() you will notice a unique mix of conifers and typical Mediterranean plants such as cypresses and oleanders. With its 300 days of sunshine a year, Tirol attracts tourists from all over the world all year round. Even Empress Elisabeth of Austria was delighted by this landscape and pleasant climate back then.

Castle Tyrol

Castle Tyrol, the former ancestral seat of the Counts of Tyrol, is an important destination for those who are interested in culture. Today it is home to the South Tyrolean Museum of Culture and Provincial History.

The adventurous ones can go for a walk to the “Muthöfe” farmsteads. These farms, that are still managed by farmers, are the highest and steepest farmsteads in the entire area. Another attraction is the Alta Via of Merano/Meraner Höhenweg, which is one of the most beautiful circular trails in the Alps.

For the mountain bikers, we recommend the tour that passes right next to the Passer River, which flows from Merano to the Passeier Valley.

For the animal lovers

On the hill of Castle Tyrol, you can find the Bird Care Centre. In this center, injured birds are taken in and cared for until they can be released again (if possible). Additionally, the center organizes daily flight shows with owls and birds of prey such as eagles, hawks, falcons, and buzzards. In addition to the exciting flight show, you will receive interesting information about the lives of birds of prey.
